The Milky Way will not look like this when you see it with your eyes.
Children: Always Have an Adult With You!
- Everyone: Be careful with your flashlights. Do not shine them at other observers. They will get grumpy! It will ruin their night vision for about half an hour. If you are observing with a group and cars are around, be mindful of your headlights and dome lights in the car. Again, others will get grumpy.
- Cars: Watch for cars in the dark. The driver might not see you or you might not see the car. That could be very bad!
- Dress Right: Always check the weather forecast to be sure to dress right. Bring heavy coats and gloves for colder weather. I always have a light pair of gloves, a light jacket, and a hat on hand, even in summer.Â
- Water: Do not get dehydrated!
- Place: Find a dark place away from light. Try to keep lights behind you.
Try very hard not to get frustrated. Some of the stars are very hard to see. Light pollution, a cloud in the way, even a bright moon make some stars impossible to see.
Above all, HAVE FUN!
