Light Pollution – Yuck!

Simple ways to reduce light pollution and enjoy better stargazing.

Light Pollution - YUCK!

Light pollution is what astronomers call lights that shine up to the sky.

Light pollution makes it hard to see stars, constellations, and other wonderful things in the night sky.

If you can, find a place away from bright lights.

Standing in a shadow will help block out some extra light.

Use one of your arms to block nearby lights. Make an L with your upper and lower arm.

Raise your arm so it covers the light. Every little bit of light you block will help you find objects in the night sky.

A wide brim hat or a ball cap with a long bill helps block light.

The sky above the light pollution would not look like this. You would see a dark sky with many stars.
